Meeting the Surgeon

September 4, 2012:

It's the first day of school and I'm in a doctor's office thinking this is kind of a waste of a sick day. But I'm hoping today will bring a definitive answer, so I guess it's worth it. My husband Keith has come with me, and I'm almost thinking this is a waste of his time also, but it is what good husbands do, so I think he feels compelled.

I like the surgeon right away. She seems smart, to the point, and breaks it all down for me. The lumps are not cysts or calcium deposits (damn!), they are fibroadenomas and most likely benign. There were two options: a biopsy, where she would poke the lumps with a needle so they could be tested; or a lumpectomy, where she would remove the lumps and then biopsy them. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I want these lumps GONE! You can biopsy them all you want once they are out of me.

There seems to be no hurry to have this surgery, so I choose her second opening, one month from today. My parents will be in Hawaii so I won't have to tell them, and I'll get to skip the teacher-in-service day so it's a win, win!

Nothing to do now but wait...
